Analysis:
The Village (2004) is a bit of a slow burn, and you have to understand the story and the characters to find out what is happening and where it's going.
But with a story acted out by a powerhouse cast, it has become captivating acting-wise. In fact, this movie would have turned out differently if they had chosen unknown actors.
What's also good about this is that the actual horror comes from the fear and terror of the community itself. The shocking revelations are properly executed, and they have built up the tension nicely. Viewers will miss out on the jaw-dropping factor if they don't pay attention to the details.
The last scene is open-ended, and the question lies whether the discovered secrets beyond the village will come out and change their lives forever.
