Analysis:
The Unholy (2021) can be categorized as religious horror. It tackles the horrifying mystery of apparitions, faith healing, and praying to an icon who is identified as holy.
With all the Catholic references aside, the best thing about this movie is the jumpscare. There are several attempts, and some can catch the viewers off guard. But a word of caution, the monster is not scary enough. The crawling with bent limbs scene is so predictable. You’ll find yourself asking why they always do that.
Also, for some reason, the actors lack chemistry with each other. The male characters don’t have much appeal, especially the bishop and the monsignor. They all look like villains. Because of this, it’s hard to connect with Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the good guy.
In any case, this is a good movie because it can happen in real life. It makes you question your faith and your beliefs.
