Subgenre: Sci-Fi
Underlying Element: extraterrestrial | mystery
Director: Robert Rodriguez
Synopsis:
This movie is about an unlikely group of students who discovered strange things happening to their teachers and came together to stop it from spreading.
Analysis:
The Faculty (1998) is a typical 90s teen horror movie where friends get caught in a terrifying situation. The only difference is that in this movie, they are just schoolmates with totally different personalities who have no choice but to stick together.
Can they work as a team to survive? Viewers must find out for themselves as the film progresses from an alien invasion to a whodunit mystery.
Another fun aspect of the story is incorporating an unlikely weapon to destroy the aliens. It's very limited in supply, and they have to correctly guess who to stab so they won't waste their resources.
Acting-wise, these rising stars prove to be nothing like the stereotypical cringe teens in horror movies. They face their fear without any help, and they mesh well together despite their differences.
Overall, this is such an enjoyable movie, no matter how many times you watch it. Teachers are already scary, and becoming thirsty creatures makes them even more terrifying.
