Subgenre: Supernatural | Religious Horror
Underlying Element: possession | demons
Director: Alejandro Hidalgo
Synopsis:
This movie is about an ordinary priest who was forced to do an exorcism but committed a sin along the way, which made him the demon’s target instead.
Analysis:
The Exorcism Of God (2021) is not an ordinary demonic possession movie. From the title alone, it is understood that God is very much involved in the exorcism.
The featured demon here is so tricky, knows how to play the game, and has a lot of nasty things in store for everyone. That’s where all the scares come from.
The ultimate exorcism sequence is probably the best part of this movie, considering the intensity and the game-changing conversation between the priest and the demon. But for fans of exorcism movies, some familiar elements exist, such as the light shining on the priest’s silhouette at the start, and of course, the infamous projectile vomiting.
The ending calls for a sequel where the priest and the girl must face each other again in the battle between good and evil. But the answer lies in that final frame.
