Analysis:
The Blackening (2022) is such a fun movie to watch, considering how they based it on going against the stereotype that black characters always die in horror movies.
Surprisingly, the comedy here is neither cringeworthy nor slapstick. It's always clever and witty the entire time. Even the racist jokes are funny and not forced.
In terms of acting, the first thing that is noticeable as they start introducing the characters is the chemistry. They are a big group, but they work well as a team onscreen despite the chaos, and they also shine individually with equal opportunities to act. This is the reason why viewers can end up rooting for all of them.
Scare-wise, it's so good that a lot of horror tropes are present in this movie. Viewers might think that it's going to be predictable, but the premise of a whodunit towards the end mixes well with the narrative. Also, despite being a slasher movie, there are not many gory scenes, which makes it wholesome. The blood squirts and stabbings are enough.
That being said, this movie is rewatchable and highly recommended for people who want something light and enjoyable.
