Subgenre: Slasher | Gore
Underlying Element: psycho killer
Director: David Blue Garcia
Synopsis:
This movie is about teenagers who bought an entire town without realizing Leatherface still lives in the abandoned orphanage.
Analysis:
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022) is a direct sequel to the original 1974 film and the 9th in the Chainsaw franchise.
Compared to the old one with less gory details, this one is packed with chainsaw action and bone-breaking effects. The bus montage took its time in all its bloody glory.
Other than that, it lacks an entire backstory as to why the teens went to a ghost town. It was mentioned that they were social media influencers but the believable reason is missing. Also, the movie failed to establish the high school massacre issue that keeps popping up from time to time.
The most important thing that the movie missed out on is creating a connection with the characters. No one cares about them because viewers don’t know who they are. They have no chemistry, and the audience can’t relate to them.
It made the quick deaths even more disappointing. In short, Leatherface’s immortality and his action-packed attacks are all that’s good in this movie. Without the blood and guts, it would look like a lame teen flick.
Take note, there is a useless after-credits scene.
