Analysis:
Speak No Evil (2022) is a Danish-Dutch movie where they speak English the majority of the time. The change in languages throughout the film is not the challenge here. It's the viewer's capacity to handle the frustration that comes with watching something horrible that can happen in real life.
This is not a typical horror movie where there are creatures or jumpscares. The scary thing here is the entire situation, combined with the decision-making skills of the people involved. It's anxiety-inducing because, as someone who can relate to the scenario, the audience knows better.
Acting-wise, they are all convincing, and viewers will keep on asking "why" with their palms on their faces. The villains are so scary and effective in portraying their evil ways. However, their motive is still a big question mark.
The shocking ending doesn't help either. It will leave you emotionally and mentally tortured. The trauma it causes makes it a terrifying cinematic experience that will leave a scar forever.
It's no wonder there is already an American-British version made just two years later.
