Synopsis:
This movie is about two girls who were tortured by an underground group, where the other one failed miserably while the other one experienced something else entirely.
Analysis:
Martyrs (2008) is one of the well-known films in the “torture porn” genre. It was marked as disturbing because of its brutality. Fair warning, this is not for the faint-hearted. The violence is so extreme that squeamish viewers will probably give up at around 15 minutes into the movie.
Those who have the guts to stick with it might find the montage of torture sequences to be a bit long and dragging. The repeated escalation of physical abuse was essential towards the even more mind-blowing revelations that follow.
The only problem was that the ending failed to explain or show what happened next after all that hullabaloo. It left so much room for questions, which can also be a good thing because the movie will leave you shocked and thinking about what you just saw.
