Subgenre: Slasher | Gore
Underlying Element: psycho killer
Director: Ronny Yu
Synopsis:
This movie is about two famous “slasher” killers from hell who steal each other's victims and end up battling for supremacy.
Analysis:
Freddy vs. Jason (2003) is such a fun movie to watch if you’re a fan of both horror icons. No matter how cringe it gets, the fact that this crossover happened is enough to want more.
Showing the backstory of Freddy's killings on Elm Street and what happened to him is a storyline that audiences can follow. It's not just about meeting Jason at Camp Crystal Lake.
Expect fountains of blood when two of the most notorious killers in the slasher subgenre join forces in one movie. From start to finish, this crossover did not disappoint. This is a movie about stabbing, slashing, and a bloody mess.
The only problem is that since this is about psycho killers on a killing spree, the cast of characters did not have much screen time to showcase their acting skills. All they did was scream, run, and then die. There are also some predictable scenes where you already know something bad is going to happen.
In any case, the ending is so great in a way that no one can actually decipher which of them reigns supreme.
Overall, this movie is perfect if you enjoy slasher films and if you want to see your favorite horror icons trying to kill each other on an endless loop of immortality.
Are there other icons who deserve a crossover movie?
Enjoyed the quick review?
I have always loved Freddy Vs Jason, one of my favourites to revisit every October. For a future crossover, I think Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring could do one. For a matchup I would love to see Ash from Evil Dead dealing with Chucky.
