Subgenre: Comedy Horror | Slasher
Underlying Element: psycho killer | possession
Director: Christopher Landon
Synopsis:
This movie is about a shy teenager who gets attacked by a killer on the loose, only to swap bodies with him and a slim chance to get back to normal.
Analysis:
Freaky (2020) is a horror-comedy basically because the psycho killer gets to act like a shy teenage girl.
But the prologue is so brutal and gory that viewers will automatically get hooked. That is a good appetizer for what is to come when the killer goes into attack mode. Watch out for violent deaths throughout the movie.
On the other hand, there are a lot of funny scenes when the characters show their differences. The psycho killer is weak inside the girl’s body, and the huge grown-ass man is doing girly gestures.
Beware of some cringe-worthy moments though, especially during the scene where the psycho killer expresses feelings for the teenage guy.
If you think the ending is predictable, think again. This movie is freakishly chaotic!
